Culture and the Arts, Instituto Cervantes, proudly showcases the Aída
Gómez Flamenco Company's explosive interpretation of the classic opera
Carmen. Catch this one-night only performance at 8:00 pm on October
17, 2006 at the Main Theatre of the Cultural Center of the Philippines
.

More than a showcase of Flamenco, the show is a performance of Spanish
Dance. The music is based on the opera Carmen and in the orchestral
suites of Carmen by Georges Bizet, with original music by José Antonio
Rodríguez. As in the case of adaptations for dance based on this
opera, the plot is basically that of the libretto of Bizet's opera:
Carmen, a beautiful gypsy girl who works in a cigar factory seduces
Don José, Sergeant of Dragones. Although at first she flirts with
Escamillo, the popular bullfighter, she falls in love with him in the
end. Out of jealousy, Don José slays Carmen in the bullring while
Escamillo triumphs.

Aída Gómez received the prestigious Premio Nacional de Danza (National
Prize for Dance) in 2004.
